> The Faculty of Humanity, Social Sciences and School of Theology invites applications for the following

> *W3-Professorship for Islamic Religious Studies *

> *with a Focus on the Basic Texts of the Islamic Tradition*

> at the planned Department of Islamic Religious Studies, to be occupied
> as soon as possible. This post is initially limited to a period of five
> years, after which the positions can be tenured.

> The Professor will be expected to adequately represent the foundations
> and methods of Quran Studies, Quran Commentary and Quran Exegesis, as
> well as Hadith Studies.
>
> The duties include the adequate representation of the field of research
> and teaching. At the same time, we expect the candidate to take over
> administrative duties, attract external funding, and actively help to
> set up an effective body of research.
>
> We also expect a contribution in consolidating and designating new
> Islamic religion-based Bachelors and Masters courses as well as the
> promotion of young talents in the field of Islamic Studies. The
> candidate will be expected to cooperate with existing university bodies,
> in particular with the Centre of Anthropology of Religion(s), or ZAR,
> and further promote national and international contacts. A good
> knowledge of Arabic is required. The applicant is expected to acquire
> sufficient knowledge of the German language within an acceptable time
> period. Lectures have to be held in German. In addition, we expect
> applicants to be thoroughly familiar with Muslim positions and inward
> perspectives.

> Qualifications include a university degree, teaching skills, a PhD, and
> additional academic achievements. The latter may consist of a
> /Habilitation /or equivalent sundry qualification, which may include
> skills gained outside of university.

> At the time of appointment the candidate must not be older than 52 years
> of age. The Ministry of Science, Research and Art may allow exceptions
> in special cases, which have to be approved by the Ministry of Finance.
> This appointment will be made by the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg.
