9 month Sessional Position in South Asian Religions

The Department of Religious Studies at Saint Mary’s University invites applications for a nine- month sessional position beginning 1 September 2015. The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses related to contemporary South Asian religion, particularly Hinduism. Our preference is for teaching capacity in Hinduism on the global level, with an interest in diasporic communities, particularly Canada. The ideal candidate would have a strong interest in Hinduism and religious political movements with the ability to teach courses across disciplines such as international development, women studies and environmental studies. The successful candidate must have a teaching portfolio demonstrating the ability to teach various issues as they relate to religion and introductory courses in Religious Studies. Applicants should hold a completed Ph.D. in Religious Studies or be near completion. We would consider doctorates in related disciplines, provided the candidate has other degrees in Religious Studies.

This position strengthens our development of a department focused on religions in contemporary, global perspective. The Department of Religious Studies provides BA honours, major, minor, and concentration programs, and in conjunction with Atlantic School of Theology conducts an innovative MA program in Theology and Religious Studies. Our students have a strong record of successful grant awards for graduate studies.
