Thorneloe University at Laurentian – The Department of Religious Studies at Thorneloe University (federated with Laurentian University) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Religion and Modern Culture, commencing August 1st, 2018, subject to budgetary approval.

Possible areas of specialization include: Religion and Literature, Religion and Culture, Philosophy of Religion, Religion and Science, and New Religious Moments.

Candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Religious Studies (or a closely related discipline) by the time of the appointment. Candidates must have a record of teaching and research excellence. Teaching excellence will be demonstrated through teaching evaluations, letters of recommendation, and range of courses taught. Research excellence will be demonstrated through scholarly output, including monograph(s), scholarly articles and essays, and conference participation. The Department of Religious Studies at Thorneloe, as part of the Joint Department of Religious Studies at Laurentian University, seeks a collegial teacher-scholar able to teach a variety of courses in modern western religious thought, including RLST 1117: Ideas of Love II; RLST 2167: Religious Constructions of the Human Good; RLST 2216: Religion and Violence; RLST 2316: Cults/New Religious Movements; RLST 2326: Dimensions of the Paranormal; RLST 2337: Religious Themes in Literature II; RLST 2365: Religion in Film; RLST 3306: Religion and Science; and RLST 4345: Special Readings in Religion and Modern Culture. RLST 1117: Ideas of Love II, as the second half of the annual two-semester introductory course in Religious Studies at Thorneloe University, is a top priority for the department, so teaching and research competence in contemporary literature on love is particularly welcome.
