The department of Religious Studies seeks a colleague for a full-time, nine-month sessional position, who is a dynamic and engaging teacher, and who has a background in the study of Western traditions as they intersect with critical race theory, and/or politics in the Americas and/or postcolonial approaches to texts and traditions. We especially encourage applications from candidates who are from underrepresented and minority racial groups. The successful candidate will complement existing expertise and teaching concentrations (historical and contemporary Hinduism, East and South Asian Buddhisms, Christianity, material culture, environmental ethics, popular culture, philosophy of religion, critical theory and community engaged learning), in a department that is dedicated to innovative and engaged approaches to the study of religion and to pedagogy. The candidate will teach 5 courses, some of which should include representations from the following: Religion, Body, Sexuality, Introduction to the New Testament, Apocalyptic Consciousness, Religion and Film, and Religion, Revolution and Violence.

The appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor and will commence on August 1, 2021, subject to budgetary approval. Applicants should have, or be nearing completion of, a PhD in Religious Studies and be able to show expertise in Judaism, Islam, or Christianity, along with a strong background in any or all of the following: race, politics, indigenous studies, postcolonial criticism. Demonstration of engaged pedagogy through innovative course design, community engagement or activism is considered an asset.
