In this lecture I examine the emergence of the Sikh tradition on- line and the impact of Sikh digital media on the religious lives of Sikhs in diaspora. I explore the development of Sikh digital media in the context of the social and political environments in which Sikhs find themselves and how digital media facilitates Sikh ac- tivism. I ask why Sikhs interact with digital media and how these interactions shape contemporary Sikh belief and practice, particu- larly on notions of Sikh identity, community and authority.

Jasjit Singh is an Associate Professor at the University of Leeds. His research examines religious identity and processes of religious transmission among Sikhs in Diaspora including the impact of the media and the digital.
