Assistant or Associate Professor, Migration and Diaspora Studies, Carleton University
Carleton University, in Ottawa, Canada, invites applications for an appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Migration and Diaspora Studies.
This position is an interdisciplinary strategic hire to enhance Carleton University’s research, teaching and program development in Migration and Diaspora Studies. The successful candidate will undertake high-quality research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses on Migration and Diaspora Studies and supervise graduate students.
This position is also intended to help mobilize an area of research strength at Carleton by providing leadership within a community of more than 20 faculty members and many more graduate students already working in this area. While informed by a variety of disciplinary and thematic perspectives, the research of this community is fundamentally concerned with issues relating to transnationalism, broadly defined, and the social, cultural, political and economic implications of the movement of people.
The successful candidate will have:
• a doctorate from either an interdisciplinary program (eg. Migration Studies or Development Studies) or from a related discipline (inter alia Anthropology, Economics, English, French, Geography, Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology);
• a demonstrated research and publishing record in the field of Migration and Diaspora Studies, preferably with a specialization in a region or regions of the Global South;
• experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
• a record of securing research funding; and
• a demonstrated ability to work in an inter-disciplinary context.
Experience in program development and management would be an asset.
The position would initially be based in an academic unit relevant to the hire’s disciplinary background, pending the launch of the Institute of International Studies at Carleton University.
