CRITICAL JUNCTURE

Friday, March 22nd– Saturday, March 23rd, 2013

Emory University,

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Proposal Deadline: Friday, December 21st, 2012

Description

CRITICAL JUNCTURE is a conference that seeks to foster a critical discourse on difference, inequality and, at the precipice of these, intersectionality. We will explore new applications of intersectionality that contend with the complex interactions between multiple identities and the power structures within which they develop, and put these approaches in conversation with the critical race and feminist frameworks that originated intersectional research.

The conference will include keynote addresses from scholars central to intersectional theory and analysis, including disability studies scholar Nirmala Erevelles, author of Disability and Difference in Global Contexts: Enabling a Transformative Body Politic. In addition, a diverse group of Emory University faculty, including Drs. Rosemarie Garland-Thomson, Sander Gilman, Mark Sanders, and Benjamin Reiss will serve as panel discussants.

Criteria

CRITICAL JUNCTURE seeks to showcase the works of emerging scholars, particularly graduate students and early career faculty. Additionally, we encourage the participation of a range of presenters from large and small universities and colleges, non-academic institutions (non-profit community development, public health and arts organizations), and scholars employing alternative modes of scholarship (visual, performance).

We invite contributions along four main themes:
