Elon University invites applications for a Distinguished Emerging Professorship in the study of Islam. This tenure-track Assistant Professor position within the Religious Studies department begins mid-August 2015.
We seek persons with a Ph.D. in Religious Studies completed by August 2015. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and strong scholarly potential. Teaching responsibilities will include Religion in a Global Context and Islamic Traditions, as well as upper level courses in their areas of specialization. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to Elon’s interdisciplinary Core Curriculum program and appropriate interdisciplinary programs and minors.
While the area of specialization is open, we are especially interested in candidates who bring interdisciplinary interests to their teaching and whose theoretical and methodological approaches complement those of the current faculty.
The Distinguished Emerging Scholar Professorship, designed to assist the recipient in rapid career development, will provide a course reassigned time, funds for professional travel and research, and a stipend in addition to the annual salary. This Professorship is limited to six years, leading to the tenure and promotion decision.
