Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Religious Studies (Thorneloe University federated with Laurentian University, Sudbury, Canada)
The Department of Religious Studies at Thorneloe University, federated with Laurentian University, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Religion and Culture. The appointment will begin on 1 July 2015.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in the Department of Religious Studies and have the opportunity to participate in Laurentian University’s MA in the Humanities. The normal teaching load is 15 credits (3/2). Responsibilities will include administration and committee work. The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD in Religious Studies or a comparable field and demonstrate effectiveness and flexibility in teaching and excellence in research. The field of specialization is open to any area of Western religious thought, but we especially encourage applicants with a research focus on Christian thought or philosophy of religion and those with a special interest in religion and contemporary culture to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Ideas of Love I and II, our first-year introductory course, and one or more of the following: Evil and Sin, Religious Constructions of the Good, Religious Themes in Literature I and II, Christian Thought and Culture I and II, Women, Religion and Spirituality, Issues in Religion and Science, Dimensions of the Paranormal, and Cults/New Religious Movements.
