One of the largest and most vibrant Faculties at the University, the Faculty of Humanities is a dynamic and multi-faceted community of people. The Faculty offers undergraduate and graduate programs in: English, French, Germanic and Slavic Studies, Greek and Roman Studies, Hispanic and Italian Studies, History, Linguistics, Pacific and Asian Studies, Philosophy, and Women’s Studies. The Faculty also offers a number of interdisciplinary programs and programs in Latin American Studies, Medieval Studies and Religious Studies. The new Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, who reports to the Vice-President Academic and Provost, will have a PhD, or equivalent, in a discipline relevant to the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Victoria and be eligible for an appointment at the rank of full professor in an academic unit of the Faculty. She/he must demonstrate a long-standing and deep engagement with the broad subject matters, which traditionally comprise a Humanities faculty and will bring a demonstrated record of achievement in academic administration, communication, collaborative leadership and a willingness to engage in robust fundraising and external relations.
