CSSR/SCÉR Responds to Suspension of Admissions in York University’s Religious Studies Program
In light of the recent announcement by York University suspending admissions to its Religious Studies program, the President of Canadian Society for the Study of Religion/La Société Canadienne pour l’Étude de la Religion (CSSR/SCÉR), Dr. Alison Marshall, has issued a statement in solidarity with the faculty and students impacted by this decision.
The Religious Studies program at York University has long been a vital space for students to engage with diverse religious traditions and explore critical global issues such as Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism, gender and religion, and more. The CSSR/SCÉR recognizes the immense value this program brings, not just to Religious Studies majors but to the broader university community through its General Education courses.
In response, the CSSR/SCÉR has called for action and encourages all members of the academic community to raise their voices in support of the program.
