Dear Members,
I am pleased to be sending you the Call for Papers for our 2020 conference at Congress (attached).
As discussed at our AGM at Congress 2019, CSSR is interested in engaging with our members to learn more about where religious studies scholarship is happening (or heading) and who we are as religious studies scholars. We want to continue to action our commitments to equity and inclusion by ensuring that we are asking for and listening to the feedback of our members.
Attached are also the letters CSSR Executive has written on behalf of our members regarding the racial profiling incident at Congress 2019 and our concerns about exclusive spaces and practices at UBC: CSSR Statement regarding BSCA (click to download), CSSR Statement regarding Congress 2019 (click to download).
In line with Congress 2020’s theme, we would like to encourage you to submit papers specifically about what CSSR needs to do to address anti-black racism, colonialism, inequity and exclusion. We will create session themes around these submissions (if individual papers) and always welcome panel submissions from our members. It is critical for us to create and protect space for these discussions with our members.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
heather (on behalf of the CSSR Executive)
