A Note from Rubina Ramji, CSSR’s Outgoing President, 2016

 In News | Nouvelles, Uncategorized

Dear CSSR/SCÉR Members and Friends,

As I step down as President, I would like to share some news and thoughts with you all. It has been an honour to work with the Executive and I would like to thank them each publicly for their hard work and dedication to the society.

Thanks to Samīkṣā Munro for maintaining the CSSR website portal and the paper submission system; thanks to Arlene MacDonald and Heather Shipley for keeping up with membership needs and concerns; thanks to Bethany Berard for the banking and budget work; thanks to Saliha Chattoo for building communications with graduate students; thanks to Catherine Caufield, Brenda Anderson and Peter Beyer for promoting member scholarship and research; and to top it all off, thanks to Marybeth White and David Feltmate for planning and executing a well run conference every year, with hundreds of people participating – all done voluntarily!! Also, every year we have local representatives on site doing work for the conference: we thank them all for their assistance.

2016-17 Executive: Arlene MacDonald has stepped down from Membership Secretary to Member-at-Large. Catherine Caufield is filling the position of Membership Secretary. Heather Shipley has stepped down from her position as Recording Secretary and has graciously taken on the position of President. And finally, Alyshea Cummins comes into the Executive as Recording Secretary. You have a fantastic group of Executive members representing us all. Our society is richer for the work of such members.

I would also like to thank present and past members of the CSSR/SCÉR. The society exists for its members. Your annual membership is essential in maintaining the society, so that we can continue holding high calibre meetings, promote academic discourse and scholarship, and to provide a voice for you at various levels of government and policy. Additionally, your membership dues allow the society to help fund graduate students so that they can participate in annual meetings and other scholarly achievements. They are the future of the society and we need to make sure it continues to thrive so that they can begin their academic careers with strength.

It has been a pleasure to serve as president for the past four years. I look forward to supporting the society for many more years to come and seeing it grow.
