“Trust” — 44th Annual Conference on South Asia, October 22-25, 2015, Madison

 In All, Call for Papers

Dear past conference participants:

As many of you know, the Annual Conference on South Asia website has presented some technical issues over the last week. Many of you are eager to complete your submissions, and I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you all. From our end, our technical support is working tirelessly to get to the root of the problem and to have the site up and running. Earlier this month, the submission portal operated without issue, but a new system always presents challenges. At this time, I have word that some fixes have been made. However, we are continuing to monitor and test the problems.

With that, the conference committee will extend the deadline for PANEL, SINGLE PAPER, AND ROUNDTABLE SUBMISSIONS only to MONDAY, APRIL 6, 2015. I will send another email when we know the site is fully operational. The preconference portal still works, and the deadline remains as Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

Again, we apologize for the stress and confusion this has caused. At this time, I will respond to individual emails as I learn more about the problem. Please hold all inquiries about the site and submission until we release further information about the problem. In the meantime, you can test the site, but we cannot guarantee that there are not issues at the moment.

Best,

Alicia Wright

Dear Past Conference Participants and Attendees:

We are now accepting proposal submissions for the 44th Annual Conference on South Asia, to be held on October 22-25, 2015 at the Madison Concourse Hotel (1 West Dayton Street, Madison, WI 53703). The theme of this year’s conference is “Trust.”

Call for Papers
Intangible yet essential, trust helps scholars gain insight into the lived experience of others. From anthropology to journalism and oral history to religious studies, trust sits at the heart of scholars’ interpretive work and credibility. More broadly, its absence between individuals and communities–ethnic or religious, linguistic or gendered–permeates the literature, economics, politics, and history of South Asia.

We welcome panels that explore the theme and its opposite in relation to a wide variety of methodologies, locations, texts and practices. We also encourage proposal submissions that do not address the conference theme. For general submission guidelines, you may visit our policy page.

New Website
Past participants and attendees at the conference will notice a major change in the conference website. Please take some time to explore the site, but also please be patient as we continue to update the new website and address any issues you might have.

Pre-Conferences
Submit proposals to hold a Pre-Conference online by Wednesday, April 1, 2015. All pre-conferences will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015. Note that preconferences are now an official part of the conference, and it is a competitive submission process to have a preconference accepted to the schedule. All attendees will be required to register to attend the conference.

Proposal Calls
If you would like to place a call for pre-conference or panel participants, please send us an email with an abstract of your call and contact information. As a courtesy, we will post your call on our website, but interested individuals will need to contact organizers directly.

Registration
The registration fee is $110 for students, $210 for non-students, as well as a new emeritus/retired fee of $110.
