CSSR Member appointed as first Canadian foreign member of Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres

Le 17 avril 2015, Paul-Hubert Poirier a été élu membre de l’Institut de France à titre d’associé étranger de l’Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres. Fondée en 1663, sous le règne de Louis XIV et à l’initiative de Colbert, l’Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres est l’une des cinq Académies de l’Institut de France, avec l’Académie française, et les Académies des Sciences Morales et Politiques, des Sciences et des Beaux-Arts. L’Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres rassemble des spécialistes des sciences humaines répartis entre quatre groupes informels: «orientalistes», «antiquisants», «médiévistes», «autres disciplines» (linguistes, historiens du droit, historiens des religions, historiens de la pensée et préhistoriens). M. Poirier est le premier canadien à devenir membre étranger de l’Académie. Il sera reçu officiellement au Palais de l’Académie le 26 juin 2015.

On April 17, 2015, Paul-Hubert Poirier was elected as member of the Institute of France to foreign associate of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres. Founded in 1663 under the reign of Louis XIV and the Colbert’s initiative, the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres is one of five academies of the Institut de France, with the French Academy and the Academies of Moral and Political Sciences, Science and Fine Arts. The Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres brings together social scientists divided between four informal groups “Orientalists”, “Antique world”, “medievalists”, “other disciplines” (linguists, historians of law, religious historians, historians thought and prehistory). Mr. Poirier is the first Canadian to become a foreign member of the Academy. It will be officially received at the Palace of the Academy June 26, 2015.
