**Fellowship Opportunities at the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society (UVic)**

Dear Colleagues,

I hope that you are doing well and that your semester is off to a great start amidst this new normal that we are all trying to navigate. My name is Rachel Brown and I am the Program Coordinator at the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society (CSRS) at the University of Victoria. I want to let you know about our visiting research fellowships and our visiting graduate student fellowships so you can pass on this information to your colleagues and students. The fellowships are an excellent opportunity to engage in the life of the CSRS for scholars who are involved in some way in the study of religion and society.

While most of our Graduate Student Fellowships are for UVic students, we do accept students from other institutions on occasion. Graduate Student Fellows receive $5,000-$6,000, a private office, and access to all of the social and scholarly events at the CSRS.

Another excellent opportunity to come and spend some time at the CSRS, for you, your colleagues, or your graduate students, is our Visiting Research Fellowship. While these fellowships are non-stipendiary, successful applicants may be eligible for a travel bursary up to $1500 to help defray travel costs.

While we cannot predict how the next year will unfold, we are hopeful that we will continue to move toward “normal” operations by next summer/fall and will therefore be able to run a regular fellowship competition for the 2022-2023 academic year. We have learned a great deal over the past 18 months and as such, even if we are not fully back on campus, we are committed to continuing to provide a rich fellowship experience for all, and are well practiced in the values of virtual fellowship after this year.

As someone who has held a visiting fellowship in the past, I can say that the CSRS offers an excellent environment for collegiality as well as a deepening of one’s own research project through the engagement with other academics from various departments across UVic’s campus as well as from international institutions.

If you’d like to chat about these opportunities, please get in touch with me, or with my colleague, the CSRS Director, Paul Bramadat. You could also check out our website for more information about the fellowships: https://www.uvic.ca/research/centres/csrs/fellowships-awards/index.php

The deadline for applications is Nov. 15, 2021.

Please circulate this email within your networks to anyone you think might be a good fit for one of our fellowships.

Sincerely,
Rachel
