Position Details

The Department of Religion and Culture at The University of Winnipeg invites applications for a one-year term position in South Asian religions at the Assistant Professor rank, commencing July 1, 2023, subject to final budgetary approval.

This position is designated for candidates who self-identify as a racialized scholar. Applicants also will typically have completed their Ph.D. by the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses such as Religions of India, Buddhist Traditions in India and Southeast Asia, and Special Topics in Asian Religions. The area of specialization is open to any aspect or geographical area of South Asian religions, as well as any historical period. We seek candidates with broad backgrounds and interests who can teach a wide range of courses on South Asian religions in their cultural contexts, although we would especially welcome applicants who focus on Sikh religious traditions.

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a cover letter (outlining the candidate’s suitability for the position, as well as research and teaching interests), a statement of teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching proficiency and a representative writing sample (i.e., a publication or dissertation chapter).
